Math Course Sequence Diagram

The Principal will explain this diagram in detail to sixth grade parents at the Incoming Parent Orientation in April. If you have question after this meeting, please contact the School Counselor.

Placement is based on four key factors: grades and effort in sixth grade math, the results of the Egan math placement test given at the end of sixth grade, the current STAR and math standards scores, and teacher recommendation. Each year we make every effort to assure that every student is placed in a suitable math setting that provides the appropriate pacing and instruction for building a strong foundation in pre-algebra and algebra. To ensure that each student is progressing in an appropriate manner, we require that all students in our accelerated/advanced classes maintain a B or better each quarter. If a student falls below a B, math placement will be adjusted.

Note: at any point in the math sequence, a student could possibly move from grade level to accelerated level, or from accelerated level to advanced level, if placement considerations are satisfied. For example, a student in Grade Level McDougall in sixth grade may sequence into Pre-Algebra Essentials or Pre-Alegbra for seventh grade, depending on his or her placement factors.
