Title:
US History
Riley Haggin

History has always played a key role in my life. I fell in love with History as a little girl reading the Little House on the Prairie books. When I was 11 years old I visited the College of William and Mary on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg and thought how lucky someone would be to attend a school like that. Seven years later, I was one of those lucky students, moving from the Bay Area to Virginia for college. After college, I began my teaching career in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, another key location in American History. In Boston I learned that teaching was not just a career, but a calling. After two years, I came back to California to attend the STEP program at Stanford, where I earned my masters in education. Once I graduated I joined LASD and I’ve been teaching US History at Egan for the past 12 years. I hope to inspire students to be active citizens and to help them see the connections between our past and our present. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy baking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
