Welcome Vikings!

I am so excited to welcome our new 7th grade families to Egan, and to welcome back our returning 8th grade families, along with any families who are new to our community this year. We are thrilled to begin another wonderful school year together.

Gen Patiño and I are so excited to return and continue serving the Egan community. We have a great year in store, and we can’t wait to welcome students back to campus on Wednesday, August 12.

At Egan, our motto is simple but powerful: Be here. Be you. Belong. My hope is that every student feels connected, supported, challenged, and proud to be an Egan Viking.

This newsletter will be sent weekly and will be one of our main ways to communicate important information with families. Please take a few minutes each week to read through it so you can stay up to date on all things Egan, including school events, reminders, deadlines, and ways to get involved.

We also hope you’ll find meaningful ways to be part of the Egan community this year. Our students thrive when families, staff, and the community work together.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Barbara Larson, and I bring 20 years of teaching experience in Santa Clara, Cupertino, and Campbell. Throughout my career, I have taught both elementary and middle school students. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from San Jose State University and hold a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a Supplement in Mathematics from Bethany College.

Having grown up near the beach, I love spending time in the ocean whenever I can. I come from a family of nine, and a fun fact about me is that I have traveled to several countries, including Egypt, where I rode a camel to see the pyramids.

I am committed to creating a safe, supportive classroom where students feel comfortable taking academic risks, embracing challenges, and persevering through difficult tasks.

I am excited to be part of the Egan Middle School community and look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growth together!

Greetings Egan Families, I am R Kenneth Burnsed.  I am excited to join the Egan team this year.  I will be co-teaching ELA 7/8 as well as supporting students with reading and writing achievement. 

 

Over the past 26 years, I have had the great fortune to wear many hats under the umbrella of education including classroom teacher, administrator, special education support and teacher coach.  I love setting goals with students and seeing them succeed-there is nothing better! 

I am from Charleston SC and have lived in the bay since 2018.  During my leisure time, you can find me in any body of water (lake, river, ocean, hot tub, kiddie pool etc.), traveling the California coast, writing, watching college football (Go Gamecocks!) and enjoying the amazing food of the bay area.

Beginning this school year, LASD is introducing a new Volunteer Authorization Process that provides one consistent system for all school volunteers. The new process builds on procedures already in place for certain volunteer roles and aligns with updated California law and district policy.

To make the process as simple as possible, volunteers are grouped into three levels based on the type of volunteer work they perform. Most classroom volunteers who are always under the supervision of an LASD staff member will complete a straightforward application and tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or testing.

Volunteers who may work independently with students or transport students (including after school sports) will complete additional requirements appropriate to those roles.
