High School Transition Process
High School Transition Process
Highway To High School - Overview
This web page was created as a resource for Egan 8th graders and their parents to help with the transition to high school. Since most students from Egan will attend Los Altos High School (LAHS), this page is focused on that transition. Students from Egan tend to do as well or better at LAHS than they did at Egan. Egan prepares them well, both academically and socially, for high school.

Private High School Application Process
Ms. Taormina and Ms. Sugey will help coordinate applications to private high schools you hope to attend during the 2025-26 school year. This resource is to help you understand the process and your role in it.
-
- We recommend you research the schools and create a list of the ones you are certain you will apply to. We also recommend that you have your parents/guardians create a Ravenna account for you since many private schools require you to apply using Ravenna and it can assist you in researching schools.
- Some schools require recommendations from your 8th grade English and mathematics teachers, while other schools allow you to select any 7th or 8th grade teacher. You must speak with your teacher to ask if they are willing to write you a recommendation. Do not assume they are willing to do so.
- As soon as you have a list of schools and the names of the teachers who have confirmed that they will write you a letter of recommendation, complete the online “Getting to Know You” questionnaire and set up a meeting with Ms. Taormina before December 6 through the front office secretary, Ms. Sugey. You will need to log in to your lasdk8.org account to access the questionnaire.
-
- All teacher recommendation requests should be directed to the individual teachers. Their email addresses are listed on the school website.
-
- Egan does not send transcripts to the private schools until the first semester marks are issued in mid-January. Please do not contact Ms. Sugey until a week after the first semester grades have been issued. Egan staff will submit transcripts to the schools, but you must bring a transcript release form to Ms. Sugey.
- Due to the large number of recommendation requests teachers receive, they may not complete them until after the December break.
-
- Egan cannot guarantee that the high schools will receive the necessary materials by their deadlines if you do not contact and meet with Ms. Taormina and/or Ms. Sugey by December 6.
- Additional information, including information for specific schools, can be found on the “25-26 High School Transition” slideshow.
- If you have questions about anything listed here, please see Ms. Taormina or Ms. Sugey.
