School libraries have great books, just like public libraries, but school libraries also teach information literacy skills and library skills that are part of the curriculum in California.
-
Our libraries provide multiple resources for students in grades Preschool through 8 with the goal of providing every student with options for becoming strong information users and lifelong readers. We offer print books and magazines, both fiction and nonfiction, for reading for pleasure and to support schoolwork and personal information interests. We also offer high quality electronic information resources for student research and reading development that are available both at school and home. Our goal is to offer choices to students in order to meet each student's research and reading needs.

Mrs. Morimoto loves helping the Egan library be a welcoming place for reading, researching and relaxing. She’s passionate about connecting students with books they will enjoy. She lives nearby and has two almost grown children who are Egan alums. When she is not reading, she enjoys planning and going on vacation trips, singing in her church choir, and going to Jazzercise classes.

Our library needs you!
The best way to help Egan’s library is to participate in the Raging Readers Birthday Book Club by donating in honor of your student’s birthday. This enables the library to purchase more high quality new books for the students. Look for more information in the Back to School Information from the PTA. There is also an ongoing used book donation drop off box in the library for newish (copyright 2016 or higher) junior high level books in excellent condition. There are also opportunities to help with the annual Scholastic Book Fair.
But more importantly, remind your student to be an active patron of the library during brunch, lunch or after school. By encouraging your student to have some recreational reading time, they will be on their way to becoming lifelong readers. An added benefit is that they will “magically” improve their writing ability and vocabulary.
