Captain's Log

Dear Egan Families,
What another great week at Egan! One of the highlights was our annual Viking Mattress Race on Wednesday. I am happy to report that our Viking survived the race, and our student crews did a fantastic job showing their school spirit, cheering each other on, and bringing lots of energy and laughter to campus. It was such a fun reminder of what makes our Egan community so special.
PTA Egan Community Night tomorrow 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Please join us for our first PTA Egan Community Night of the year! This is always a fun opportunity for Egan students and families to come together, connect, socialize, and celebrate the start of the school year.
A reminder that this event is for Egan students and families only. Our PTA has put a lot of time and thought into planning a welcoming and fun evening, and we hope you will join us as we continue building community together.
Back-to-School Night — Wednesday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m.
We look forward to welcoming parents and guardians to Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, August 26.
We will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Egan Multi, which is our large gym located near the bike cages. We will start with a short welcome message from me, along with information from our LAEF and Egan PTA representatives. After that, families will follow their student’s schedule and visit classrooms.
Students will bring home a copy of their schedule on Tuesday, so please be sure to ask your student for it before coming to campus. You will need the schedule to help navigate the evening and find each classroom.
We will also have a table outside where families can purchase Egan merchandise.
If you are unable to attend Back-to-School Night, we encourage you to reach out directly to your student’s teachers with any questions.
Picture Day — Friday, August 28
Picture Day is happening on Friday, August 28. All students will have their picture taken, regardless of whether families choose to purchase photos. We will send home more information in the next few days with details on how to order pictures.
After students take their photo, they will receive their student ID card. Please remind your student to keep their ID with them. We use student IDs periodically throughout the week for hot lunch, and students may also need them for Egan activities, including school dances.
Thank you for another wonderful week, Vikings. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming community events.
Go Vikings!

~Lisa Taormina

LAEF Board Members

Let’s come together and support a high-quality, well-rounded education at Egan this school year.

For 44 years, LAEF has funded the teachers, staff, and programs that make our students’ education exceptional beyond what public funding covers.

Beginning in 2026–27, LAEF is expanding its role by fundraising for instructional programs and materials that were previously supported by the PTAs. This change allows us to provide more consistent support for these programs across every LASD school. This is a shift in fundraising responsibility, not educational priorities, creating clearer roles and simpler giving for families. So we are asking you to shift some of their donations toward LAEF, in a similar way to how the fundraising responsibilities are shifting.

Let's set our students up for a successful year. Learn more about what your gift makes possible.

Thank you for supporting our neighborhood schools!

Important Information

Tardies and Absences

Attending school daily, and on time, is an expectation. This year, there is added emphasis on consistent attendance and punctuality. A student’s daily presence, along with punctuality to each class, is a key to their overall school success AND builds lifelong habits.

The Egan staff defines “being on time” as students being in their seats when the bell rings. This is the expectation for students in all of their classes throughout the day. Students not in their seats when the bell rings are marked as tardy.

Frequent tardies and absences, excused or unexcused, will result in notifications sent home, the withholding of privileges and parent meetings.

We like to accentuate the positive, so let us end by saying that we want to see your student, every day and on time! Being here, being punctual and being fully present are critical elements to success.

look at our library
Egan's Library has been open since Day 1! If your student didn't wander over on their own, they have now visited with their English class for a library orientation/review, which included a team scavenger hunt and a chance to check out books.

The library catalog, links to research databases, and the hours are on the Egan Library Webpage.  While the before and after school hours vary, the library is always open at Brunch and Lunch, starting ten minutes after the lunch bell rings. Hope to see your student there!
