Captain's Log

Dear Egan Families,
Somehow we made it through the week without melting and I’m hoping the cooler weather ahead gives all of us a little relief. Despite the heat, there was still plenty happening around campus, and it was great to see our students making the most of their week.
As we’ve kicked off the school year, I want to take a moment to thank the families who have already donated to the Los Altos Education Foundation (LAEF). If you haven’t contributed yet, I hope you’ll consider doing so. Egan simply could not offer all that we do for students without the generosity of our families. This year, our fundraising model has shifted a bit. Our PTA is focusing more on building community and creating opportunities that bring our families together, while LAEF supports many of the experiences students have during the school day. At Egan, that includes our elective programs, classroom materials and resources, and enrichment opportunities that go beyond what our regular school funding can provide. Right now, donations are running lower than we need, so every contribution truly matters. A huge thank you to those who have already given, we appreciate your support of our students and teachers.
Let's set our students up for a successful year. Learn more about what your gift makes possible.
Yosemite Update – 8th Grade Families
We’re officially gearing up for one of our favorite Egan traditions our 8th grade Yosemite trip the week of October 12! We recently wrapped up our Parent Information Night and chaperone meeting, and the excitement is starting to build. This is such a memorable experience for our eighth graders and one that we hope to continue offering for many years to come.
A big thank you to the families who have already contributed toward the cost of this year’s trip. At this time, we are still approximately $15,000 short of the funding neededIf you have not yet made a contribution, we kindly ask you to consider giving whatever amount works for your family. Every contribution helps. If you have already donated and would like to make an additional gift, please reach out to Ms. Jacob in the front office. Sustainable funding is essential to ensuring that we can continue this experience for future generations of Egan students, and we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our parent community.
A quick reminder as you begin preparing: families recently received an email with the packing list, trip information, and a look at what a typical day in Yosemite will be like. Students will need hiking boots for the trip. If your child does not have a pair, we have hiking boots available in the office for students to borrow. Be sure to take a look at the packing list now so your student is ready for Yosemite!
We also have something fun coming up next week! Our first Egan student dance is Friday, September 18, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will be sold during lunch next week. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and there will be no sales at the door. Students will need their student ID to enter. Cell phones get the night off and should stay tucked away during the dance, and students will remain at the event until it ends. Parents and guardians, you’re our official chauffeurs for the evening: pickup is at 7:30 p.m. sharp! We’ll share more details with students next week in our video morning announcements.

Thank you for your support and for partnering with us. Go Vikings!

Did you know?

LAEF is funded by thousands of individual donations, large and small. Each school year, parents, community members, and local businesses come together to help fund our neighborhood schools and keep them among the top 1% of all schools in California.

Every gift adds up in making our schools rank in the top 1% in California. Donate or pledge to LAEF today to help fund teachers and essential programs at your school, and request a corporate match if it's available to you.

Here’s how to partner with us:
Complete the LASD Back to School process at LASDEducationPartners.org

Step 1: Donate to LAEF
Step 2: Join and donate to the PTA for each school your children attend

Your gift helps ensure that your student and every LASD student receives the strong programs and well-rounded education our schools are known for.

Counseling Corner

Counseling Corner

We’ve had a great start to this school year, and the counseling team is excited to support our middle schoolers during this period of significant growth and transition.

Next week, we will be opening our Wellness Center, a space where students can reset and recharge. We will also be offering wellness activities and workshops throughout the year that students will be able to sign up for and participate in.

We warmly invite parents to reach out anytime with questions or if you feel your child could benefit from a check-in.
