Captain's Log

Happy Thursday, Egan Families!
We have some fun things happening on campus as we head into the end of this week and look ahead to next!
Our First School Dance is Tomorrow!
We are excited to see our students come out and have some fun! The dance will be held from 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Tickets have been sold during lunch all week, and Friday at lunch is the last opportunity to purchase a ticket. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.
A few important reminders for students and families:
  • Students must be in attendance at school on Friday in order to attend the dance that evening. Students who are absent from school on Friday will not be able to attend the dance.
  • Students must bring their Egan school ID to enter the dance.
  • Phones are not permitted at the dance.
  • Once students enter the dance, they are expected to remain until it ends at 7:30 p.m. Students will not be permitted to leave early.
  • Please make arrangements to pick up your student promptly at 7:30 p.m.

Spirit Week is Coming!
Next week is Spirit Week, so get ready for your student to show up with pride and show their Viking spirit! We’ll have some fun throughout the week and wrap it all up on Friday with one of our favorite Egan traditions — PJs & Pancakes!
Students should arrive at school at their regularly scheduled time on Friday, and we’ll kick off the day by serving pancakes to all of our students. Pajamas, pancakes, and Viking spirit — a pretty great way to end the week!

Yosemite Countdown
We have some wonderful news to share! Our 8th grade Yosemite trip is now fully funded!
Thanks to the generosity of our Egan families—and an incredibly generous family who stepped forward to close the remaining funding gap—we have reached our goal for this year’s trip.
We are so grateful to every family who contributed, whether large or small. Your collective generosity is what makes this special Egan tradition possible for our students. We can’t thank our community enough for coming together to support this experience.
Yosemite, here we come!

As you begin getting your 8th grader ready, please take another look at the packing list and trip information that was recently emailed home. Students will need hiking boots, and we have boots available in the office for any student who needs to borrow a pair. Checking the packing list now will help make sure everyone is ready when it’s time to head to Yosemite!
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our students and our Egan community.
Go Vikings!

Thank You, Egan PTA & Families!

A big thank you to our PTA and Egan parent community for treating our staff to a wonderful Salad Luncheon this week! The delicious food and generous donations were such a special treat and very much appreciated by our entire staff.
A special shout-out to Kay Nicholson and Melina Carey for organizing the luncheon and for chairing Staff Appreciation this year. Thank you for all the time, thought, and care you put into making our staff feel special. We definitely felt the love this week!
We are so fortunate to have such a supportive parent community. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the luncheon such a lovely treat for our staff!

New! Online Payments Through PowerSchool

LASD families now have the option to make online payments directly through the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
Families can use PowerSchool to conveniently pay student-related fees and charges, including field trips, lost or damaged materials, and other school-related expenses.
When selecting the payment option in PowerSchool, you will be directed to eFunds, the district’s third-party payment provider. Families will need to create an eFunds account before making their first payment. Once your account is set up, payments can be made by credit card or ACH/bank transfer. A small processing fee will apply. Families who prefer to pay by check may continue to do so directly through the Egan office.
Please note: Donations to PTA and LAEF should not be made through PowerSchool.
Accessing Online Payments
To access payments, log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal using the email address you used when registering your child with LASD. If you have forgotten your password, select “Forgot Password” on the login screen.
If you do not have access to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please contact powerschoolsupport@lasdschools.org for assistance.
Instructions for using the eFunds online payment system are also available to help families get started.  You can find instructions on how to use the eFunds online payment system here.
We know how busy family life can be, and we hope this new option makes handling school-related payments a little easier. As always, if you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Egan office. We’re happy to help!

LAEF

LAEF’s Fall Fundraising Campaign

iLAEF’s Fall Fundraising Campaign is underway, with a push to encourage donations now through September 28. Thanks to the generosity of many families, we are now at 38% of our fundraising goal. But we need everyone’s help to sustain the well-rounded, quality education that LASD schools are known for. No matter the amount, every gift matters and strengthens our schools.

If you haven’t donated yet, please consider making your tax-deductible donation or pledge today, and increase your impact by submitting for a corporate match if available to you!

Let’s keep the momentum going!

Counseling Corner

We’ve had a great start to this school year, and the counseling team is excited to support our middle schoolers during this period of significant growth and transition.

Next week, we will be opening our Wellness Center, a space where students can reset and recharge. We will also be offering wellness activities and workshops throughout the year that students will be able to sign up for and participate in.

We warmly invite parents to reach out anytime with questions or if you feel your child could benefit from a check-in.
