Dear Egan Families,
We had such a fun Spirit Week! A huge thank you to Mr. Kesselring, Ms. Patiño, and our Leadership students for making it such a great week for our students. It was fun seeing everyone get into the spirit, and we ended the week with one of my favorites, PJs and Pancakes! Nothing like serving hundreds of pancakes first thing in the morning!
We’re getting close to the end of our first quarter! The quarter ends Friday, October 16, so now is a good time to sit down with your student and take a look at PowerSchool together.
If there are missing assignments or areas where they need a little extra help, encourage them to talk with their teachers and take advantage of Tutorial. There’s still time to finish the quarter strong.
And remember, the quarter report card is just a snapshot of where your student is right now. Junior high is a time for students to learn how to manage their workload, advocate for themselves, and figure out what works for them.
Parent–Teacher Conferences
October and November are conference months in LASD. Conferences look a little different at the junior high level than they may have in elementary school. Our teachers work with a lot of students, many have 160+ so conferences are invitation-based and focused on students who may need some additional support.
If your student is doing well and on track, you may not hear from a teacher to schedule a conference, and that’s a good thing! Of course, if you have a concern or something you’d like to talk through, you can always reach out directly to your student’s teacher.
Conferences are usually about 15 minutes and can be held in person or virtually. We also ask that students attend with their parents. We want them to be part of the conversation about their learning.
If your student has an IEP and you have concerns that may require the full team, please reach out to your student’s case manager.
A Few Reminders
Yosemite is almost here! Our 8th graders attending Yosemite should be wearing their hiking boots to school and getting them broken in before we head off. We definitely want comfortable feet on those trails!
Thursday, October 8 is a minimum day, with dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
And there is no school for students on Friday, October 9, as our staff will be participating in professional development.
Thanks, Egan families, for all you do to support your student and our school.
Go Vikings!
