We have had a lot to celebrate at Egan over the past week!
Last Wednesday, September 30, we hosted our 3rd Annual Junior High ELL Family Welcome Event with Blach Intermediate School, and we had our biggest turnout yet. It was so nice to see new and returning families sitting together over dinner, meeting one another, asking questions, and getting to know our schools a little better.
With help from across LASD, we were able to offer translation in Japanese, Spanish, and Mandarin. Parents learned more about Summit K12 and had time to get help with PowerSchool, ParentSquare, and other school resources. Meanwhile, the kids were busy with origami, drawing, music, reading, and just having fun together. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the evening happen!
Then on Sunday, more Egan families were back together, this time to give back. Our PTA community service event with Rise Against Hunger brought together 125 volunteers from across LASD and Compassion Week, including more than 30 Egan students. Together, they packed an incredible 15,000 meals for people in need. It was great seeing so many of our students there, hairnets and all, working alongside their families and friends for a good cause. We will share an update when we learn where the meals are headed.
A special thank you to Ali Granbery for her passion and all the time and energy she put into organizing this event.
I hope everyone enjoys the extra long weekend and gets a chance to rest and recharge. We will see everyone back on Monday. And to our 8th graders, staff, and chaperones heading to Yosemite, safe travels! We are excited for you and hope you have an amazing week together.
Go Vikings,
