Dear Egan Families,
What a week we've had here in Yosemite! I'm happy to report that our 8th graders are doing well and having a great time!
We've had some chilly mornings, a day of rain, and thankfully some beautiful sunshine. Our students have been busy hiking, exploring, and learning about the environment. Some have taken on challenging hikes, including Nevada Falls, and it's been fun watching them encourage each other along the way.
Our days start early with a 6:30 a.m. wake-up call, followed by breakfast before heading out on the trails around 9:00 a.m. Students spend much of the day hiking and learning from their outdoor educators before returning to camp for dinner and evening activities. By the time lights go out, everyone is ready for bed, including the adults!
I've really enjoyed seeing our students outside of the classroom, spending time with friends, making new connections, and enjoying everything Yosemite has to offer.
We're looking forward to bringing our campers home on Friday! I'm sure they'll have plenty of stories to share, some tired legs, and laundry for you!
A special thank you to our teachers, staff, and chaperones who have spent the week away from their own families to make this trip possible. I truly appreciate all they've done for our students.
See you Friday!

Please join me in giving a warm Viking welcome to Trina Johnson, our new Library Assistant! Trina will be supporting our library on Mondays and Tuesdays, and we're excited to have her join the Egan team!
Trina is currently working toward her Master's in Library Science at San José State University, with plans to graduate in December 2027. She brings previous experience working with students ages 6–12 and is looking forward to making the jump to junior high!
Outside of work, Trina enjoys roller skating, lifting weights, and, of course, reading whenever she gets the chance! She and her husband share many of these hobbies.
We're happy to have Trina at Egan and look forward to having her join the Viking community.
Welcome Trina.

What is Unity Day?
Started by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center, Unity Day is a signature event during National Bullying Prevention Month. It's a day for school communities to come together and send a visible message that bullying is not acceptable and that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and included.
Why orange? Orange represents warmth, safety, and inclusion. Wearing orange is a simple way to show that we stand together in creating a school where everyone feels valued.
At Egan, our motto says it best: Be Here. Be You. Belong. Unity Day is another opportunity to remind our students that kindness matters and everyone has a place in our Viking community.
Help your student get ready by finding their favorite orange shirt or accessory to wear on Wednesday!
Thank you for helping us make Egan a safe, kind, and welcoming place for all.
Let's fill Egan with orange on Wednesday!

Our November PTA general meeting is coming up on Thursday, November 5 at 8:45 AM in the Library. Agenda will be sent out as we get closer but set your reminders and hope to see you all there.

Wondering what to expect as your child transitions from middle school to high school? We invite all 8th grade parents to join us for Highway to High School, an informative evening designed to help parents navigate the journey ahead!
We'll cover high school graduation and college admission requirements, course planning, extracurricular opportunities, and resources available to students at LAHS at the beginning. Then you will hear firsthand experiences and practical advice from a panel of 7-9 parents who have been through it. There will also be opportunity to ask questions at the end.
Whether you're excited, overwhelmed, or simply curious, come get your questions answered and feel more prepared for the road ahead!

Happy October! As autumn arrives (hopefully bringing some cooler weather) and our students settle into their routines, this month brings us National Bullying Prevention Month.
Middle school represents a key developmental period where social dynamics and online interactions rapidly shift. National Bullying Prevention Month gives us a focused opportunity to teach empathy, empower students to stand up for one another, and ensure every child feels safe, included, and supported at school.
Our Wellness Center is open and we love seeing students come in and engage in our activities. If your child feels like they don’t know quite where to go or who to sit with at lunch, we’d love to see them in the Wellness Center.
We warmly invite parents to reach out anytime with questions or if you feel your child could benefit from a check-in. We are here to partner with you!
